- D.P. Russell is sitting on a chair and Charles Laverty is standing in front of their temporary home, a tent at Acton. Both men appear dressed in their best clothes. A bicycle is shown behind Russell and Laverty is wearing a hat. A washstand with a dish is visible just inside the tent and a water jug is sitting on the duck boards.

- Laverty served as a signalman in Mesopotamia during the First World War. He worked in Canberra as a clerk with the Department of Home Affairs before enlisting. Note that the inscription on the back refers to Laverty as Russell and Russell as Laverty. Refer to photograph 2534 which shows Laverty and the Canberra soccer team of 1914.
