- Farrer was born on 3 April 1845 near Kendal in England. He arrived in Australia in about 1870 and married Nina De Salis in 1882. By 1886 he had begun his experiments with wheat at Lambrigg, south of Canberra. He died on Easter Monday, 16 April 1906 and is buried on the hill behind Lambrigg Homestead.
