- William James Farrer (1845-1906) was a significant figure in the development of the wheat industry during the late 1800s and early 1900s. In particular he bred varieties of wheat more suited to growing conditions in Australia and which had a higher nutritional value. He meticulously recorded his wheat breeding in note books of which this object is one. He lived, worked, died and is buried at Lambrigg near Tharwa.
- The original field book was donated to the CDHS by WP Bluett. For conservation reasons the CDHS donated the field book to the National Library in 2001 and the library provided the Society with a copy of the book.
