- Summary
- Max Oldfield was born on May 1st 1928, eighteen months before the Wall Street crash and the onset of depression. Global factors conspired with the premature death of his young mother to shape the boy's life. His early years alternated between a home base in the Naas Valley and the rugged ranges of the snow country to the west. Like most young men of the high country era, he was measured by his skill, understanding and courage in dealing with horses, both wild and domesticated. On that measure he was ranked supreme by those who knew him best. But there was -- and is -- much more to the man than that. These pages, presented to him on his 88th birthday, tell Max's story.
